What do FFI class sessions look like?
A. For independent schools, summer camps, afterschool and homeschool programs, and for students of any age:
FFI projects fit beautifully into any class subject because all of the AWRWWE episode material can be adapted to any subject matter and for any age student.
The Teacher’s Guide shows how to incorporate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) concepts as well as providing additional project ideas.
We recommend 1 or 2 FFI classes (2 is ideal) each month of the school year.
We also recommend FFI sessions of 45min./ea. for pre-school, elementary and middle school students; 60-90 min./ea. for high school and college students.
Project length may vary from 1 session to an entire school year.
A specialist teacher (either pro bono or paid with an Honorarium) may be brought in to partner with the classroom teacher. This decision is completely in the hands of each participating school. It adds to the knowledge base of the classroom teacher, minimizes her/his workload, and adds new perspectives for students. To find a specialist teacher, great places to start are your own network and community groups such as:
Master Gardener groups.
Tree Steward groups.
Botanical gardens.
Indigenous Tribal organizations.
Local Conservation and Environmental groups.
B. Teach for Climate Justice schools:
Incorporate FFI as “Teaching Activities” into their curriculum.
They add value to the scope of Climate Justice curriculum content and are used in the same ways as in other schools.
